Know It All

Throw out your conceited opinions, for it is impossible for a person to begin to learn what he thinks he already knows.
— Epictetus

At some point in our lives, we all make the mistake of thinking we know much more than we actually do.  It is extremely difficult to learn anything if you have closed your mind to what someone is saying because you believe you know more than them. I have made this mistake. I remember being at college in my classes for Exercise Science and not paying as much attention as I should because I thought I already knew everything the professors were teaching. This undoubtedly lead to me missing out on some knowledge that I either had to "re-learn" later on or that I still do not have today. Such a wasted opportunity. It saddens me to know that I could be better at my profession if only I had listened to what people were trying to teach me. My ego was an obstacle to my development. Don't let this happen. No matter who you encounter at any point and time in life, you can learn something from them. Remember, you don't know everything, and even the master can learn from the student.
